Tejas Patel Selected as District Executive for George Mason

Tejas PatelNational Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of  America is pleased to announce that Tejas Patel has been selected as the new George Mason District Executive, serving northern Fairfax County, Va.

Prior to joining the NCAC team, Patel served with the American Red Cross in Disaster Operations, procuring materials for people effected by disasters, including deploying to New York for Hurricane Sandy.

Previously he served 11 years in the US Marine Corps. He also served a year‐long tour in Kandahar, Afghanistan, working closely with local Afghan leaders to build capacity and sustainable development.

Upon completing his undergraduate studies at Penn State University, Patel joined the Peace Corps, teaching biology, chemistry, and physics in Botswana. Since then he has spent more than 25 years volunteering with non‐profit organizations. Patel remains an active volunteer including coaching an under‐seven boys’ soccer team.

As a strong believer in the mission of the Boy Scouts of America, Patel looks forward to helping Scouting grow and serving the youth and volunteers of Fairfax Count

2015 Canoe Trek in the Canadian Wilderness

imagesTroop 187 in Fairfax, VA has 2 open slots remaining for their High Adventure canoe trek in the Canadian Wilderness in  2015. They are seeking interested scouts and adults to participate.

The trip will take place between 7/25/2015-8/2/2015 at the Donald Rogert Canoe Base in Atikokan, Ontario.

Scouts must be 14 years of age or be 13 years old and completed 8th Grade upon arrival at Northern Tier.

Please note there are scholarships available from the BSA for scouts participating in the trip that  demonstrate financial need.

HOW: Webelos – Bring your den leaders and parents to meet and greet some awesome area troops. Troops – Bring your displays/videos/program information to share with Webelos and your fellow scoutmasters. Field uniforms are encouraged.
