Scout Day – Georgetown Basketball – Sat 7 Mar 2015

Dear Scouting Leaders,

 

We are happy to announce discounted tickets are on sale for Scout Day at Georgetown Basketball on Saturday, March 7th at thenoon game vs. Seton Hall. The game will be held at Verizon Center in downtown DC (601 F Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20004)

 

The first 150 scouts in attendance will receive a commemorative Georgetown Scout Day Patch. After you order your tickets, please email me at cdg44@georgetown.edu to reserve the patches for your group!

Scout Sunday Patch The Catholic Committee on Scouting is offering a patch to all Scouts and Scouters that attend Scout Sunday, participate in a service or wear there uniforms to a service from February through April 2015.

Kids Cook Recipe Contest

“Real Food For Kids, a volunteer parent organization that advocates for better food in schools, is sponsoring a Kids Cook recipe contest for students in grades 4 to 8 in the metro-DC area. Find the entry form, flyer, rules and prize information at http://www.realfoodforkids.org/Camp Cooking Original recipes are due January 31. The competition will take place in six participating Williams-Sonoma stores in DC and VA with the first round on February 21 and the final competition on February 28. It is free to enter and we welcome all budding food lovers to enter their own delicious, healthful recipes!

Each of the six Williams-Sonoma stores will host a competition among up to four contestants whose recipes have been selected as the best entries. You will see on the entry form that each entrant is asked to choose one of the participating W-S store locations. The winners of those competitions advance to the final round. The prizes are terrific.”

Summary of National Capital Area Council Camping and Outdoor Program Committee Plan

HikersBSA policy and good business practice requires a council-wide strategic plan written every five years, reviewed annually and then revised as required. NCAC’s original plan was labeled the Plan 2008-2012. It is now in its 3rd revision which was revised in Aug 2013 and titled NCAC 5-Year Strategic Plan 2013 version.

Tejas Patel Selected as District Executive for George Mason

Tejas PatelNational Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of  America is pleased to announce that Tejas Patel has been selected as the new George Mason District Executive, serving northern Fairfax County, Va.

Prior to joining the NCAC team, Patel served with the American Red Cross in Disaster Operations, procuring materials for people effected by disasters, including deploying to New York for Hurricane Sandy.

Previously he served 11 years in the US Marine Corps. He also served a year‐long tour in Kandahar, Afghanistan, working closely with local Afghan leaders to build capacity and sustainable development.

Upon completing his undergraduate studies at Penn State University, Patel joined the Peace Corps, teaching biology, chemistry, and physics in Botswana. Since then he has spent more than 25 years volunteering with non‐profit organizations. Patel remains an active volunteer including coaching an under‐seven boys’ soccer team.

As a strong believer in the mission of the Boy Scouts of America, Patel looks forward to helping Scouting grow and serving the youth and volunteers of Fairfax Count
