What is Friends of Scouting?
Friends of Scouting “FOS” is the annual campaign where the National Capital Area Council asks Scouting families, businesses and civic-minded citizens to support our mission of providing the Scouting program to thousands of young people in National Capital Area.
Why should I give to Friends of Scouting?
Friends of Scouting provide roughly one-quarter of the money needed to operate the National Capital Area Council’s scout camps, programs and facilities for a calendar year. The camping and training activities provided by FOS funds help assure scouts have fun, learn leadership skills and develop into better young men and women. The National Capital Area Council spends approximately $185 per Scout each year to deliver these benefits and much more.
I already paid my child’s registration and his unit collects annual dues. Haven’t I already supported Scouting?
Your child’s registration fee goes directly to the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America. If your child’s Scout unit collects dues, that money stays with the unit to help pay for trips and other activities. None of that money helps the National Capital Area Council pay for:
Maintaining and staffing both Camp Snyder and Goshen.
- Training thousands of adult volunteer leaders in youth protection and position specific skills.
Providing programs like Roundtable, Pinewood Derby Championship. Archery days, camporees, etc.
Producing the District Newsletter and updating this website, to try and better inform you about upcoming Scouting events and programs.
We need your support
The George Mason did not earn the Quality reward in 2010 in part because we did not achieve the district fund raising goals. Each Pack, Troop or Crew unit needs to raise on average only $25 per Scouter for the District to reach our goal. Parent, Grandparents, Friends, Leaders, can you help us raise the funds from the unit to help reach this goal? Did your unit do its part in reaching our funding raising goal and help to achieve quality district?
