Congratulations to Roy DeLauder on his Silver Beaver Award. Well deserved.
As all of you unit leaders know, we are in the process of re-chartering, this must be completed by February 29, 2012. As of this date, only 18 out of 43 units have started this process. That is 42% of the units in the George Mason District. So unit leaders should all be engaged in this re-chartering process. Let’s make it happen today! Along with the re-chartering process, your JTE in Scouting is also supposed to be turned in. All forms are to turned in by the 10th of March 2012. JTE Quality Districts will be awarded at the Council Court of Honor on the 29th of March 2012. All units should review the JTE for 2012, since some of the requirements have changed.
Last year was a good year for the National Capitol Area Council. We were number 1 in Retention with a rate of 77%. We collected over 850,000 lbs of food to distribute to our less fortunate neighbors, and we had 1,263 Eagle Scouts. In addition to this, we were among the top 5 Councils in the country. On a side note, only 32% percent of the units in the Council participated in “Popcorn ” Sales. We also have a new Council President, Hugh Redd. Let’s keep up the good work.
We have received our new Friends of Scouting Goals for the coming year. Our Family Scouting goal this year are $47,000.00, to date we have collected $450.00, or 1% of our goal, our Scouter goal is $11,000.00, to date we have collected $9,710.00 or 88.3% of our goal and our community goal is $2,500.00 of which we have collected 0%. Remember that this money is used to support scouting in our community, such as Camp Snyder, Goshen, and other events. If you haven’t scheduled the “Friends for Scouting” in your unit, please contact Howard Svigalis for a time and date for the presentation. It is interesting to note that although last year was a bad economy, giving actually increased. This giving was gifts by individuals (80%) and not corporations.
Yours in Scouting,
Kent Webber
George Mason District Chairman
